Why do we have a hard time learning new things?

Knowledge is like a tree, with the trunk being the most basic way you understand the world, and branches coming from it, with twigs coming from them, and leaves coming from them.

Every person has their own tree of knowledge, which branches out into more and more specialized knowledge. New knowledge always grows as leaves, and is flimsy when you first learn it.

Repetition is the key to learning. Doing lots of exercises and looking at a problem from dozens of points of view helps to reinforce your understanding.
